Job Description
Renewable Energy Vermont (REV), a leading industry association representing renewable energy technologies, is hiring for the position of Executive Director (ED). Founded in 2000, REV has grown to include 300 business and professional members and supporters. With ever-growing interest in renewable energy and related incentives, this is a very exciting time for REV. Our ED will successfully manage multiple priorities, professionally represent the organization, supervise staff and volunteers, and manage daily internal and external operations. This position reports to the REV Board.
This is a full-time position based in downtown Montpelier, with flex-time and telecommuting opportunities to accommodate the extra workload during legislative and conference periods.
Specifically, the ED will be responsible for the following:
Maintaining a working knowledge of significant trends and developments in renewable energy at the local, national and international levels
Growing REV membership through outreach and networking
Managing REV programs and grant funded activities, including the Partnership Program that certifies renewable energy installers in Vermont
Managing the annual REV legislative agenda
Providing management and oversight to REV staff
Responding to inquiries from REV members, the media, and the general public in a timely and professional manner.
Planning and organizing two revenue generating conferences per year with possible additional events as determined by the Board
Preparing the annual budget and workplan
Working with the Board to ensure that adequate funds are available to allow the organization to carry out its work
Managing REV’s daily finances to assure the financial and operational sustainability of the organization
Updating and maintaining the REV web site as necessary to publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals
Coordinating the production of a monthly newsletter
Preparing and distributing the necessary information for REV Board meetings in advance, with input from the Board Chair, to enable the Board to make informed decisions
Assuring the Board is kept fully informed on all important factors influencing the organization
Building relationships with stakeholders by representing REV’s programs and points of view to agencies, legislators, organizations and the general public
Qualifications and Desired Experience
REV seeks an entrepreneurial and energetic individual who will be comfortable in a hands-on role to serve as the ED. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years of active experience in and understanding of managing for-profit or not-for-profit entities. Energy and energy policy expertise is required (experience in the renewable energy sector not required specifically) and experience working for a Board in a political environment preferred. The successful candidate should:
Be passionate about renewable energy
Have experience in growing an entity (business, community group, hobby, etc.)
Have effective written and oral communications skills
Be comfortable speaking publically
Be highly organized
Have experience with or an understanding of fiscal management
Be able to work in a fast-paced, and team environment while able to effectively manage a diverse set of activities
Exhibit independent judgment and be a self-starter with strong personal initiative
Be a visionary and strategic thinker who is innovative yet pragmatic

Title: Ranch Assistant
Position: Full time – Residence at Slide Ranch Required
Start Date: December 1st, 2009
Slide Ranch inspires visitors to discover the connections between the food we eat and the soil that nourishes the plants and animals. Our outdoor classroom ignites ongoing learning and provides a place to reflect on the impact our individual and collective choices have on the environment, food and health. Slide Ranch participants experience a deeper connection to the natural systems of the Earth, its soil, water, sun and the human efforts that bring food to the table.
Position Summary: The Ranch Assistant reports to the Director of Ranch Operations, and is part of the Ranch Team. The Ranch Assistant helps with day-to-day upkeep, maintenance and repair of the farm facilities in a manner that is safe and appropriate for housing the staff and providing hands-on educational programs to the public. This position also assists with management of all livestock at Slide Ranch. The Ranch Assistant also coordinates regularly with the Ranch Management Team to assist with chores and maintenance tasks as needed or directed. This position requires living on-site in housing provided by Slide Ranch. Resident-related responsibilities include weekly chores, cooking dinner for other residents twice each month and monthly resident meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
· High School diploma.
· Commitment to agriculture and environmental education.
· Demonstrated experience with carpentry and facilities maintenance.
· Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform strenuous outdoor tasks.
· Willingness to do what it takes to perform emergency repairs when needed.
· Flexibility to provide on-duty coverage on weekends on rotational basis or with other days off, as needed and arranged.
· Ability to work closely and collaborate with a wide variety of people.
· Clean DMV record and valid driver’s license required.
Other Skills
· Plumbing and electrical skills.
· Experience with livestock including breeding, birthing and health care a plus.
· Teaching experience preferred but not required.
· Computer literacy a plus.
Compensation: Housing, healthy food, health and dental insurance with additional salary $16k-$18k per year DOE. Applicants must be comfortable living in rustic accommodations.

Sustainable Design Faculty- Evergreen College
The Evergreen State College seeks a broadly capable designer, artist or design-oriented engineer to teach sustainable design in a setting of team-taught, interdisciplinary programs which evolve from year to year, and are full time for both faculty and students. A strong candidate will have a record of creative practical experience, demonstrated commitment and ability in teaching sustainable design/construction or environmental art forms, the capacity to bridge between these fields and environmental studies, and understanding and ability to address community and environmental justice in relation to sustainability.
The candidate’s field might be architecture, landscape architecture; construction technologies; engineering; land-use, transportation, energy, or resource systems design; restoration and preservation of natural and built environments; industrial or product design; public art; or environmental art and sculpture. S/he should be prepared to lead an undergraduate design studio, and to teach sustainable design as a rigorous and creative investigative and problem solving process employing a suitable mix of fieldwork, research, analysis, graphic visualization and modeling, hands-on construction, communication, and writing skills.
Opportunities exist locally for collaboration with community organizations. Evergreen encourages student, campus and community engagement in creating, designing and building in sustainable ways, and welcomes a candidate who is prepared to take a leadership role in such efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Masters degree or higher in a 3D art form, architecture or landscape architecture, sustainable design, engineering, or an environmental studies related field, and with an active record of exhibitions and/or applied research and design work.

Preferred Qualifications:
· Terminal degree (Ph.D., MFA, or equivalent) in primary field is strongly preferred.
· Experience working with diverse populations and traditionally under-served students and communities.

This is a full time Regular Faculty position, eligible for continuing appointment after two, three-year renewable contracts. Through our unique and innovative model, we are growing a movement that has significantly improved funding and support for environmental causes and the activists who champion them. Responsibilities:
The DD is responsible for creating, executing and continuously improving a comprehensive strategy that grows income for 1%. 1% is a highly entrepreneurial brand-driven organization that works hard to innovate around its core model. It is also committed to achieving a break-even point where earned income meets or exceeds core operational expenses. Therefore, the DD will be called on to engage in a range of non-traditional fundraising activities such as new member acquisition and consumer facing campaigns that have strong brand-building elements embedded in them.
Overall, The DD has the demonstrated capacity and motivation to place the organization at the cutting edge of the application of rapidly evolving technologies in fundraising (e.g., website development, search optimization, online fundraising, social networking). The DD has generalist experience, judgment and capabilities that will enable him/her to be an effective contributor to the leadership team of the organization and to the Board. The DD also will have all those leadership skills that will enable him/her to represent the organization articulately and effectively to key external stakeholders, to collaborating organizations in the nonprofit sector, and to the community at large. The successful candidate will be a results-driven, high-energy professional of unquestionable integrity, dedicated to the mission of the organization.
Specifics Include:
§ Provide leadership and support for the organization on all matters related to fundraising encompassing friend-raising, enhanced community visibility, and support from individuals, foundations, and corporate giving programs.
§ Identify potential funding sources, create the opportunity for the "ask," follow through the writing and oversight of grant or other application/solicitation processes.
§ Ensure that excellent relationships are maintained with donors and that donor gifts are carefully stewarded for the purposes intended by the donors.
§ Manage the budget for the development function.
§ Oversee maintenance of a detailed and useful donor database.
§ Anticipate changing needs with vision and imagination. Initiates long-range strategic and operational fundraising planning. Responsible and accountable for business-like implementation, including budget development and management, of all such fundraising plans.
§ Manage staff, volunteers, and all internal and external resources in support of the fundraising function, including management of all cultivation and fundraising events, events designed to enhance organization visibility, new fundraising initiatives and services, and efforts to enhance resources for organization donors.
§ Develop tactical and strategic plans, establish goals and objectives, measure progress, define criteria for success; retrospectively and prospectively evaluate progress, inform CEO and Board of this progress, and demonstrate pragmatism and flexibility to recommend changes in direction based on outcomes against plan.

Responsibilities:
The DD is responsible for creating, executing and continuously improving a comprehensive strategy that grows income for 1%. 1% is a highly entrepreneurial brand-driven organization that works hard to innovate around its core model. Therefore, the DD will be called on to engage in a range of non-traditional fundraising activities such as new member acquisition and consumer facing campaigns that have strong brand-building elements embedded in them.
Overall, The DD has the demonstrated capacity and motivation to place the organization at the cutting edge of the application of rapidly evolving technologies in fundraising (e.g., website development, search optimization, online fundraising, social networking). The DD has generalist experience, judgment and capabilities that will enable him/her to be an effective contributor to the leadership team of the organization and to the Board. The DD also will have all those leadership skills that will enable him/her to represent the organization articulately and effectively to key external stakeholders, to collaborating organizations in the nonprofit sector, and to the community at large. Specifics Include:
§ Provide leadership and support for the organization on all matters related to fundraising encompassing friend-raising, enhanced community visibility, and support from individuals, foundations, and corporate giving programs.
§ Identify potential funding sources, create the opportunity for the "ask," follow through the writing and oversight of grant or other application/solicitation processes.
§ Ensure that excellent relationships are maintained with donors and that donor gifts are carefully stewarded for the purposes intended by the donors.
§ Manage the budget for the development function.
§ Oversee maintenance of a detailed and useful donor database.
§ Anticipate changing needs with vision and imagination. Initiates long-range strategic and operational fundraising planning. Responsible and accountable for business-like implementation, including budget development and management, of all such fundraising plans.
