We are located in a high desert river valley where we grow market vegetables, fruits, hay, and produce dairy/meat goats and poultry. Our current projects include constant gardening, building 2 greenhouses, rainwater harvesting earthworks, developing reclamation and wildlife areas, designing an edible forest garden, and further implementing alternative energy and natural building techniques. We live in a passive solar, straw bale, off grid home with PV and solar hot water. This fall we will be installing a wind turbine and building an adobe/straw bale structure. Type of work involves gardening, animal care, general construction, and all-around help. One month stays are best due to the training involved. Accommodations include a 16 ft yurt for one person or a couple. Other activities include trips to the farmers market, art, photo documentation, website design, and building alternative energy and natural building experiments. We expect our helpers to be eager and engaged, hard working, patient, and thoughtful. Good communication is the key. We do not have a vehicle for use, but helpers can come to town with us. We are very remote, so not expect to get anywhere fast without a vehicle. (A vehicle helps if you want to take weekend road trips!) Children and pets are possible. We have two small children and many pets so talk to us first. We speak English only. Special diets include vegetarian and carnivorous, but we do not keep any wheat or cow dairy in the house.
