Vermont. The Madsonian is planning an exhibit for Summer 2012 titled “Walter Dorwin Teague, His Life, Work, and Influence.” This will be a groundbreaking exhibit on a man considered one of the deans of industrial design.

The work of industrial designers is just now becoming widely recognized, and we invite you to be a part of it.

The Madsonian has openings for two interns. Interns will work with us to get involved in an area of their interest.

Work will be hands on, and focused on this exhibit in particular. Time commitment will vary depending on your interest and availability. Work may include research, graphic design, and production of exhibit materials. This is a great opportunity for a person who wants to deepen their understanding of industrial design, use this as a research project for a class, or gain experience to build your resume.

Project Role:

Requirements:

· Currently a full-time student at a US accredited university with at least one semester to complete after the internship

· Experience with 3D CAD. Autodesk Inventor preferred.

· Creativity and ability to generate and execute upon new ideas.

· Broadly conversant and up-to-date in Sustainable Design terminology and methodologies.

· Experience with rapid prototyping tools and technology.

· Experience with coding and software development (for mobile platforms).

Fore Solutions is seeking a part-time program coordinator, with potential for up to full time work as a Project Assistant. This is a 20 hours/week position. The Program Coordinator (PC) will run the day-to-day activities of the LEED for Homes projects in the pipeline. October 5 - Hurricane Irene Volunteer Day

Yestermorrow Volunteer Day

Hurricane Irene brought the worst flooding that Vermont has seen since 1927. Rivers crested well over 15 feet their normal level, taking roads, bridges, and even entire homes with them. Flooding has also been completely devastating to the true heart of Vermont, its dairies and farms, leaving many of them with damaged facilities, unrepairable equipment and acres of land that has either been covered in silt or washed away completely.

Volunteer efforts are needed in multiple phases throughout the recovery process. Three weeks later, individual resources have been tapped out, volunteers are fatigued or have had to return to their pre-flood lives leaving those most hard-hit by the flood with dwindling volunteer efforts.

If you would like to be a part of the next phase of flood relief , a volunteer day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 5 to send a crew of Yestermorrow community members to towns south who were not immediately accessible to relief efforts and are subsequently weeks behind in clean up and demolition efforts. Principal Areas of Responsibility
The Program Coordinator is responsible for planning and executing tasks related to the implementation of Center for Whole Communities retreats and workshops. CWC operates on a seasonal schedule, with most retreat activities happening in the spring and summer months. CVOEO Weatherization -- Reducing energy costs for low-income Vermonters: CVOEO Weatherization is the local service provider for Vermont’s Weatherization Program in the Champlain Valley of Vermont, including Addison, Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. Vermont’s Weatherization Program uses state, national, and utility resources to deliver comprehensive energy services to qualified low-income households. The program is offered at no-cost to qualified low-income households.

Position Goals: This position will have the exciting opportunity to work in and amongst the many areas within the Weatherization Department, including our new and exciting projects (e.g. solar installs, smart grid, etc.). The goals of this position are to provide support in a variety of areas within the range of weatherization (Wx) programs thru client intake, outreach, advocacy, energy efficiency education, assisting with energy audits, and administrative duties while learning the comprehensive nature of Vermont’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).

o MARS (Major Appliance Retrofit Service) – project that identifies and replaces large, inefficient appliances (i.e. frig, washer, dryer) for qualified residents;

o Smart grid – education, awareness, and data tracking for pilot project;

o SERC (Sustainable Energy Resources for Consumers) -- Energy Efficiency as well as Health and Safety Client Education, Solar Panel site qualification, and product education;

o Supporting energy audits and Wx auditors on/off-site;

o VFEP (VT Fuel Efficiency Partnership) audit and project assistance for multi- family buildings;

o Emergency Heating System Grant Program -- Support both the administrative and technical program aspects. This can include responding to client inquiries for emergency heating services, conducting client intake and returning calls to clients needing assistance, managing data entry, client tracking, working with contractors, processing payments, and assisting auditors in technical analyses.

workshop in cordwood building techniques from August 15-19, 2011. The
workshop will be taught by Earthwood Building School Directors, Rob and Jaki

This hands-on workshop will cover Timber Framing, Living Roofs and Cordwood

of short logs (called "log-ends") laid up widthwise in the wall within a

are easy and fun to build.

Located on the Pacific Coast a thirty-minute drive north of San Francisco, Slide Ranch is situated in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Close to the urban Bay Area yet surrounded by wildlands, Slide Ranch is a beautiful isolated homestead perched on the rugged coastal edge of the continent.

Program participants learn to care for farm animals and gardens, explore miles of wildland trails, discover ocean tide pools, and sometimes camp overnight. Our Teachers-in-Residence customize each program to meet the learning needs of groups of all ages, ethnicities, and cultures, focusing particularly on elementary school-aged children. Approximately one-third of our programs support under-served populations.

Position:
This is a residential "live-on-the-ranch" position - housing and food provided plus monthly stipend.
Apply yourself for 10-1/2 months of work that challenges you to grow as a person and as a professional educator. You will gain valuable hands-on experience in agricultural and environmental education while living and working with a group of people in a rural setting. Teachers plan and lead experiential educational programs that include the exploration of our farm, garden, trails and tidepools.

The work week typically involves 5 teaching days. About once or twice a month during the school year, a Professional Development Day replaces a teaching day. Teachers are responsible for daily ranch chores outside of the 8-hour work day. Afternoon sessions include teacher meetings, gardening, and facilities maintenance/farm labor. Organic gardens, goats, sheep, and chickens, along with the coastal wild lands and tide-pools, provide an ideal outdoor setting for teaching environmental awareness.

We customize our educational programs to meet the learning needs of groups of all ages, ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds, focusing particularly on elementary school-aged children. Approximately one-third of our programs support under-served populations. Throughout the school year children from urban and suburban areas travel to the Ranch and encounter the animals and gardens that are the source of foods they buy at the corner store or grocery store. Slide Ranch’s educational programs are taught by teaching interns, who spend 10 and 1/2 months living and working on site.

Position Summary: The Ranch Steward reports to the Director of Ranch Operations, and is part of the Ranch Management Team which also includes a Head Gardener and a Facilities Manager. The Ranch Steward is responsible for managing all livestock at Slide Ranch in a manner consistent with our mission. In addition to livestock management the Ranch Steward coordinates with the Ranch Management Team and assists with other farm facilities maintenance and chores as needed or directed. This position requires living on-site in Slide Ranch provided housing.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Responsible for monitoring and health of all livestock at Slide Ranch in a manner consistent with the mission of Slide Ranch
• Administers vaccinations and medication in a planned and consistent manner and seeks veterinary help as needed.
• Monitors animal diets; orders and maintains feed, bedding and medical supplies.
• Ensures that all animal housing and enclosures are clean, safe and maintained for educational program access and interaction.
• Manages goat milk production.
• Provides animal orientation to staff and incoming Slide Ranch teaching interns
• Trains and supervises Slide Ranch teaching interns and staff to assist with daily animal chores.
• Manages pasture fencing and feeding to benefit both land and animals.

This is a full time, residential position. Room and board, health and dental benefits, paid holidays and vacation, with additional salary of $17k to $19k per year depending on experience. Property management, maintenance, and facility development. Care for the grounds and all buildings on site.

Help develop facilities for new structures and organization.

The caretaker will work closely with the farm manager and other staff on a weekly basis. Although there will be team projects the majority of the work will be self-guided.
