ReCycle North Building Materials Store Clerk

ReCycle North is a small non-profit in Burlington that accepts reusable building materials as donations and makes them available for sale or donation. Full time, part time and summer positions are available. These positions require excellent customer service and communication skills; willingness to work inside and outside in all kinds of weather; Saturday availability; knowledge or experience with building materials; and an ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds through the work day and up to 200 pounds using a hand truck. Green Infrastructure Coordinator

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper, Buffalo, NY

Overview: Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper has been actively involved with the identification, planning and implementation of waterfront public access, stream restoration, habitat and wetland rehabilitation, and open space preservation throughout the Buffalo and Niagara River Watersheds for nearly 20 years. Currently, there are numerous opportunities for implementation of “green infrastructure” projects with a focus on stormwater management, wetland rehabilitation, and bioengineering. In its current strategic plan, Riverkeeper has mapped a role for the organization as a nonprofit partner in the execution of green infrastructure projects throughout the Niagara region– meeting a capacity need in the region for project development and implementation. Our focus is on implementing projects with a wide base of consensus that achieve ecological, technical, recreational and economically sustainable objectives.

Function: To coordinate and manage all Riverkeeper green infrastructure activities

Qualifications: Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper seeks highly talented, organized, creative and motivated individuals with a commitment to technical excellence and community-based river revitalization. We offer a challenging and exciting work experience where professionals can truly have an impact on the health of our community and Great Lakes ecosystem. Masters in environmental engineering, landscape design/architecture or similar with three years experience in green infrastructure planning and implementation, habitat/wetland restoration, open space protection including technical planning, stakeholder engagement and support, project management, grant writing and program implementation. Position will require effective public presentation skills and comfort with actively advocating for Riverkeeper interests.Familiarity with the Great Lakes ecosystem, Niagara River Greenway Plan and environmental restoration technologies a plus. Must be willing to design a schedule that will accommodate necessary community meetings including evenings. Staff will be expected to work from the Riverkeeper office although some telecommuting is permitted. Personal transportation is expected within the entire Niagara River watershed.Compensation will be commensurate with educational and professional experience. While the position could easily fill a full time position, Riverkeeper will consider part time professionals and an adjusted work program in the interest of securing the most talented and appropriate person for this position. Senior Associate, Building Efficiency

Description: The Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) is seeking a Senior Associate to work on energy efficiency in the buildings sector in its Boulder, CO office. The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Conduct analysis and advocate for
    adoption of state-of-the-art building energy codes at the state and local levels in the Southwest;
  • Organize workshops, prepare case studies,
    and undertake other activities to encourage construction of new homes and commercial buildings that far surpass minimum energy code requirements;
  • Evaluate new and emerging energy
    efficiency technologies for buildings and promote their adoption where appropriate; and
  • Conduct outreach to raise awareness and
    increase the adoption of energy efficiency measures in existing homes and commercial buildings in the Southwest.

The Senior Associate will carry out these activities in conjunction with other SWEEP staff and our state representatives.

Qualifications: Applicants should have experience working on energy efficiency in buildings for a public interest group, private company such as a consulting or architectural firm, research institution, or government agency. Masters degree plus at least five years of experience or Bachelor's degree plus at least eight years of experience. Strong analytical and communications skills, ability to work independently, and a personal commitment to a cleaner environment and more sustainable future. Experience working for a non-profit organization is also a plus.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits, as well as the opportunity to work in a relaxed environment close to the mountains in Boulder, CO.

Wild Gift Fellowship opportunity

Wild Gift -- a fellowship program for environmental leaders and entrepreneurs, ages 21-30. Wild Gift recipients are given grants (up to $12,500 each) to support projects that benefit the natural environment and human communities. Wild Gift recipients are also awarded a three-week trek in Idaho's Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, where they refine their projects by working with mentors and classmates. At the end of the funding year, each class of recipients reunites with other Wild Gift alumni for a whitewater kayaking trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Past recipients have used Wild Gift funding to launch a solar design firm in India, a nature-writing program for urban youth in San Diego, a sustainable chicken farm in Arkansas, and a green real estate development company in Boston (just to name a few). NEW Mastate Charitable Foundation Internship Opportunity

We are elated to announce a new, dynamic and exciting internship opportunity for a motivated, hard-working, organized, patient, bilingual Spanish/English speaker with building experience who is interested in natural design, green construction and community development in rural Latin America (specifically Costa Rica).

The Mastate Charitable Foundation (MCF), a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and based in Seattle, WA, works to advance benevolent, educational and scientific efforts in and around the small community of Mastatal and La Cangreja National Park, Costa Rica. They are offering a 6-month to 1-year internship to one fortunate individual willing and able to coordinate the construction of a Community Learning and Sharing Center (CLSC) in the middle of the small community of Mastatal. The position offers a monthly stipend of $100, includes all food and lodging, and provides an amazing opportunity to work in an incredible environment doing influential, empowering work. The CLSC will be a library, an artisan and visitor’s center, a gathering place and a focal point in the community. It will serve as the heart of the town and will be constructed by local hands with native materials and resident knowledge. It will be a place to learn, conduct business, read, rest and tell stories and a space for sharing and creating. The CLSC will be inclusive by nature, and from the initial planning to the final construction and operation, Mastataleños will be participating in their future.

As the intern overseeing this project, we will expect you to be the liaison between the community, the local government and MCF; the project manager supervising the construction of the building; the budget director managing the project’s finances; and more. Rancho Mastatal will provide you with all of your delicious meals and a comfortable bed and living situation. MCF will cover all of your project related expenses. You will have complete access to Rancho Mastatal’s extensive library and facilities. MCF expects you to work a 40-hour week.
