PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Henry Hudson’s death is lost in time, although his life is remembered in the schools, parkways, valleys, and rivers that bear his name. His body sank in the deep cold waters of Hudson Bay, Canada after his mutinous crewmen set him adrift to meet his fate. For four hundred years his bones have been rolling with the tides of the great waterways that inspired his adventures. For the 400th anniversary of his discovery of the Hudson River, the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild has invited guest curator Linda Weintraub to mount an outdoor exhibition on the property of the historic Byrdcliffe Arts and Crafts Colony in Woodstock, NY. She is inviting renowned architects, all residents of the Hudson Valley, to imagine that Henry Hudson’s remains just washed up on the shores of Ulster County. The architects are designing and constructing memorials that interpret the significance of this occasion within the context of 400 years of European occupation that followed the discovery. The memorials will provide the opportunity to reflect upon Hudson’s achievement. Participating architects include: Solange Fabiao, Michael McDonough, Nancy Copley, Matt Bialecki, Alan Neumann, Evan Stoller, Peter Franck & Kathleen Triem, Barry Price, Les Walker, Byron Bell, Todd Rader & Amy Crews, Randy Gerner, Tobias Armborst, Nicholas Goldsmith, Kenneth Barricklo, Matt Bua, and others. Alan Baer and Frances Halsband are advisors.
